Tarangire is often the most underrated park on Tanzania's northern circuit. It's home to some of the largest elephant herds in Africa, with groups of over 100 individuals not uncommon during the dry season, alongside a landscape defined by ancient baobab trees and the Tarangire River, which draws wildlife from across the region when other water sources dry up.
June through October is peak season, when the dry conditions concentrate wildlife around the Tarangire River, making for exceptional elephant sightings. The wetter months see animals disperse more widely, but bring lush green scenery and excellent birdwatching.
Tarangire is often added to the start or end of a northern circuit safari, either as a first stop from Arusha before heading to the Serengeti, or as a quieter final day after the bigger parks.
