Not legally required for most visitors, but strongly recommended, here's what a good policy should cover.
Tanzania does not require proof of travel insurance for entry in most cases. That said, given the remote nature of many safari areas and the cost of emergency medical evacuation, most experienced travelers and tour operators strongly recommend it, and some Kilimanjaro operators specifically require proof of coverage that includes evacuation.
If you're climbing Kilimanjaro: double-check your policy explicitly covers trekking up to at least 6,000 meters and includes helicopter evacuation. This is the single most commonly missed detail, many standard travel policies cap altitude coverage well below the summit.
Buy your policy shortly after booking your trip, not right before departure. Trip cancellation coverage typically only protects you against cancellation reasons that occur after the policy is purchased, so buying early gives you broader protection.
Your guide or operator can't sell you insurance, but any reputable one will ask if you have it before a Kilimanjaro climb or remote safari, treat that question as a useful reminder, not a formality.
We can point you toward what your specific itinerary needs coverage for, safari, Kilimanjaro, or both.
